Eliza back on TV…with Joss Whedon?
Yes. The rumors are true. As a true (read: obsessive) Buffy fan, I am truly ecstatic.
FOX describes Eliza’s new series Dollhouse as:
Echo (Eliza Dushku) [is] a young woman who is literally everybody’s fantasy. She is one of a group of men and women who can be imprinted with personality packages, including memories, skills, language—even muscle memory—for different assignments. The assignments can be romantic, adventurous, outlandish, uplifting, sexual and/or very illegal. When not imprinted with a personality package, Echo and the others are basically mind-wiped, living like children in a futuristic dorm/lab dubbed the Dollhouse, with no memory of their assignments—or of much else. The show revolves around the childlike Echo’s burgeoning self-awareness, and her desire to know who she was before, a desire that begins to seep into her various imprinted personalities and puts her in danger both in the field and in the closely monitored confines of the Dollhouse.
After reading that… who isn’t excited about this new series? Two of my favorite people. The incomprarable Eliza Dushku, and the brilliant Joss Whedon. Working together again in perfect harmony.
Also, the new show will give Eliza a wide selection of characters to play. She won’t just be the rogue Slayer, or the hero who saves lives by reliving days. She can be a pauper, a poet, an action star, a damsel in distress… whatever the fantasy, she’ll have the chip (and chops) to do it.
Dollhouse even has it’s own website with tidbits of news and gossip and everything else related to the show… and it hasn’t even aired yet. Now THAT’S some pretty serious fan stuff. According to the latest post on the website, we can expect to see the premiere of Dollhouse in the Fall, however, there is a rumor that it will be a midseason replacement in 2009. We will officially find out the airdate next week, allegedly, on May 15th.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m definitely looking forward to it! Way to go Joss and Eliza!
The concept sounds incredible and creepy, and they’ve already been signed for 7 episodes, and hopefully, once it airs, FOX will actually give Eliza a chance, and we can get a full season (whatever that will be…) next year.
