and this is my new favorite promo pic

And then there’s this one

This week’s episode of Family Guy contained a clip of Ted and Barney in a spoof called “How I Met Your Father.” I absolutely love it when one show I love makes fun of another show I love. It also works in the other direction. If How I Met Your Mother randomly poked fun at Family Guy I think I would be so excited.
It was Legen-…wait for it…-DARY! First of all, Barney is just AWESOME! I don’t care what he does. If he’s posing nude (and subsequently being Ken-dolled), then I’m tuning in and rolling on the floor, dying.
Well, after watching the spoof of HIMYM, I wanted to peruse the internet to find the video to post here. Well, I perused, and found a few links that looked promising. Unfortunately, the video was removed from YouTube. Shame. I really feel like it was a clip that needed to be shared with everyone.
Don’t get me wrong. I was jumping up and down frantically, crying hysterically, and screaming at my TV while watching Powerless, the psuedo-sort-of-real-because-of-the-writers-strike finale.
But… it felt like a pilot. A good pilot. It kept me on the edge of my seat, but at the same time, it left me wanting more. At this point, it’s quite evident that the WGA is on strike. I understand that this finale was not meant to be a finale, but was written as such to protect the integrity of the show and it’s fans in the event the strike were to continue. And it did.
I will, however, comment on things I liked and didn’t like, and what made the episode good enough for me to watch.
I was a little surprised by the Nathan/Peter scene that played out towards the end. It sort of felt campy. Nathan came to stop Peter from destroying the world. Didn’t we ALREADY see that last season? I get the whole speech that Nathan gave, but the fact that he had to give that speech in the first place, and his delivery was just screaming “I don’t know what else to say, so I’m going to be insanely overdramatic because this is going to be it for a while, and, well… I don’t know what else to say.”
Also, Noah giving in to the Company to save his family was incredibly bold. It was a huge thing for Claire to decide to expose the company, then rescind once her father came home.
Elle was incredible. I really felt we got some insight into her in this episode. Clearly, she was very intent on her father’s approval, but going after Sylar was the most impressive thing we’ve seen her do. It wasn’t evil. It did leave some ambiguity as to her actual role in the Company and whether she’s on the side of good or evil. I actually enjoyed the friction between Elle and Claire. Battle of the evil Company daughters. One can kill you, the other can heal you. The next volume is going to be interesting if the two maintain their respective powers.
Speaking of Volume 3… The teaser at the end of the episode contained Sylar with both Claire’s and Mohinder’s blood, that will probably give him his abilities back. Volume 3 is entitled Villains. Which can only mean we’re going to get a better look at the Company and what they can really do. And what roles the next generation is going to have at being heroes. Namely, Hiro, Peter and Nathan, Matt, and so on.
Hiro did the coolest thing this episode. He tried to stop Adam, and subsequently ended up back in his office in Japan. But where did Adam end up? A coffin, buried six feet under… how long will he be down there, and will it cost him his 400+ year old life?
So many questions.
But the reason this episode felt like a pilot is because for the most part, every hero’s storyline was separated, but started weaving together. People died, and there was a lot of introductions to new ideas and theories. The endings to each respective storyline really felt incomplete. But, like I mentioned before, this episode was a clear indicator that the writer’s strike is still on.
