Jonathan and Darla

Channel surfing this morning I came across Comedy Central and a movie called Shriek if You Know What I Did, which is yet another Scary Movie like spoof.  The main headliners are Tiffani-Amber Thiessen and Tom Arnold.  It’s a parody of Scary Movie, Scream, Dawson’s Creek, I know What You Did Last Summer and many other teen scary cliches.

And I can’t leave out my personal favorites Danny Strong and Julie Benz which add to my list of Buffy Sightings.

It’s not until the end of the movie that one of the kids realizes that they’re living the parody life: “Dawson”, “Good looking kids get brutally murdered”…”I know what you did…whenever”.

This was the lamest of the parody  movies but funny as anything.  Perhaps I may have to buy it…

The Price is….Right?

Perhaps not anymore. I was shocked and appalled when I heard news of Rosie O’Donnell taking over the highly respected Bob Barker’s position as the host of The Price is Right.

I would never watch the show with another host, let alone with Rosie O’Donnell. It’s pure insanity. Who cares if she’s gay and pissed off people at The View. I won’t watch the show. I feel she’s gotten loud and abrasive in a much more rudesque way than she’s ever been before. She says she voicing her opinion, but she’s just pissing people off.

Whomever replaces a legend like Bob Barker had better be good, because, honestly, it just won’t be the same. 35 years of The Price is Right and Bob Barker doesn’t look a day over 55 if anything. I think the show should just not dig in it’s heels and accept defeat gracefully. It’s not really like The Tonight Show or Late Night with David Letterman, where the fate was determined after Johnny Carson.

Bob Barker mentioned to the Associated Press on Wednesday that he was not making a ROSIE ENDORSEMENT, but simply stating that she along with others will do well in his role. Thank you, Bob, for making that clear.

And apparently Rosie plans on meeting with the shows producers early next week. I am not pleased. And I just won’t watch the show. Okay, it’s not just that Rosie is interested. I wouldn’t watch the show with ANY new host. I don’t hate Rosie, I just think that at this point in her life she’s really REALLY annoying in a Paris Hilton sort of way.

Okay! That’s enough, Rant Girl! (my inner rant girl frequently needs to be tamed…)

Hell’s Kitchen

Can I just tell you that Chef Ramsay is not as scary as he appears to be in the kitchen?  Not at all, according to the Girls team of Hell’s Kitchen.  For the past two episodes, the girls team has been the winners of different kitchen experiences, and as a reward they get a special trip and time spent with Chef Ramsay.  Every single one of the girls has said “he’s worth dressing up for” and “It’s nice to spend time with him and pick his brain.”

Well, then.  What’s the other team’s problem?  Opposite the girls in Red are the Boys in Blue, and they have been consistently failing since the second episode.  Last night, Aaron, the 48 year old chef, passed out one more time, and doctor’s orders prevented him from returning to the show.  Perhaps he shouldn’t have been getting so stressed out.  Just ask the girls; he’s not that bad.

So, last night’s initial challenge was a bit different.  They were feeding the US Army and the US Navy breakfast.  Julia blew Chef Ramsay away with her ability to take control in the kitchen during breakfast (she’s the short order cook), THEN proceeded to take control of the Blue Team in order to get the food out. I think the problem with the blue team is that they haven’t decided who can take control, and all the guys continue to butt heads.

Three people were put on the chopping block: Joanna, Julia and Jenn.  Julia, I feel, didn’t deserve to be there, ESPECIALLY after she more than proved herself during breakfast.  She’s not being given a fair chance by her teammates, who strongly believe that because she has no knowledge of “fine dining” that she will fail miserably.  Jenn threw herself on the mercy of the kitchen and admitted to Chef Ramsay that she took spaghetti from the top of the trash, cleaned it off and tried to serve it.  Let me tell you, I’d NEVER ear in a restaurant where I knew she was working.  That’s just gross.  Yeah, everyone makes mistakes, but that’s just wrong.

Rant girl takes over: Did you hear about the study some kids were doing to prove or disprove the “5 second rule”?  It was a blip on the 11 o’clock news one night.  And their results proved that certain foods would start attracting bacteria much faster than others when left on the floor.  I was amused.

Anyway, eventually Joanna was sent home for her rancid crab meat and not being able to take the lead, control her station and letting her entire team down by just giving up (and nominating herself).

I love this show!

Take What You Can, Give Nothing Back!

Saturday nights really haven’t been chock full of quality television. Outside of the depressing America’s Most Wanted that’s been on for over 20 years, a new episode of America’s Got Talent and Saturday Night Live, I’ve found but one thing on that I am delightfully inclined to watch… Pirates of the Caribbean: Legend of the Black Pearl!

How can you compare ANYTHING to a movie that showcases Johnny Depp so prominently, I ask you…How? Okay, well aside from this being a Johnny Depp movie, the special effects and graphics are incredibly realistic and terrifying.

I currently own both Pirate Movies on dvd, and with the third still in theaters, it could continue on forever. There have been rumors of Depp saying that he would continue to play Captain Jack Sparrow as long as he could, as long as they wanted him to. Capt Jack is Johnny’s first recurring role in a movie…EVER! But you all knew that, I bet.

Veronica Mars Axed

kristenbell2.jpgWell, it’s officially official this time. Veronica Mars has been canceled, not for lack of trying to save it and bring it back from life support.

And a general consensus stands against the actions of the CW in convincing fans that there was actually something to hope for. Dawn Ostroff was apparently on board with the reworking attempts of Rob Thomas, but with all the resistance around her, the show slowly fizzled out.

I can’t say I’m surprised at any of this. But I was one of those types who still let a glimmer of hope seep in thinking, perhaps the CW was doing something right since their debut in the fall. I am, however, extremely pleased that the “Will it/Won’t it” drama is over with. It was a great show and really didn’t deserve the lack of respect it received.

I’m a huge fan of the first two seasons, with the incredible writing and witty actors that brought the show to life. And season three started off as a disappointment, so it was clear during the season debut in October 2006 that the Fall of 2007 would not see a new Veronica.

Rob Thomas also alluded to Veronica Mars surviving in alternate media, giving fans another glimmer of hope for perhaps a comic book and novel series, much in the way of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who suffered a similar fate. Except Buffy’s ending was a natural progression rather than an abrupt yanking from the fans. But, the comic books and novel series, not to mention the several books from authors analyzing the Cult Classic.

Veronica Mars will be missed, but I’m sure we’ll be hearing something from her in the future.

Mr. Pop History

The most wonderful thing of all wonderfult things in the whole world has happened. I have stumbled across a website that is chock full of Pop Culture! I introduce to you Mr. Pop History!

If there was any information I ever felt necessary for anyone to have, it’s Pop Culture References. After all, where would the world of television be without obscure references about The Full Monty or Keyser Soze

SUCCESS!!!

Everything has successfully been moved over from the old site.  I’m quite surprised at how simply it worked.  It took me a minute to figure it out, but after my computer decided to cooperate, it was smooth sailing.

Hope you enjoy!

I Did It!!!

I cancelled HBO!  Not for lack of trying to get into all the fantastically wonderful things HBO has to offer, I just couldn’t bring myself to keep a channel that I only watched for The Sopranos

Talking to the woman at Comcast had me in stitches dying.  Coincidentally, it was the same woman I spoke to when I added HBO to my cable package.  And just as when I called the first time, I spent a half hour talking to this woman about The Sopranos current season, and past episodes that were really good.  What came from that conversation?  I added the Howard Stern On Demand package which includes ESPN in hi-def and something else, I’m sure.

Since all of the current shows for the season have ended, there hasn’t been too much I’ve been interested in watching.  I’ve started back with the new season opener of Hell’s Kitchen, which is such an awesome show.  And Gordon Ramsay is terrfiyingly in th sweetest way you could imagine.  I’d never want to be stuck in a kitchen with him, that’s for sure.

I’ve also started watching Big Love, which is an HBO specific drama about polygamy.  We rent the first season at my video store, so it’s easy enough to catch up with since HBO is no longer on my radar.  Weird show, let me tell you.  I was pleasantly surprised, however, to see some Veronica Mars alums Amanda Seyfried who is a first daughter in the polygamist family, Tina Majorino and Kyle Gallner who play friends of the kids in the family.  It’s always nice to see a familiar face that you loved on a different show.  Also, Bill Paxton plays Bill Henrickson, the head of the family.  It is the strangest show, but not gonna lie, I’m hooked.

Morning Boredness

In my travels this moring, I came across the most entertaining blog I’ve read in awhile (that has nothing to do with television or entertainment).  The Gospel of Reason had a post yesterday called “Pi=3″, and I was in tears from laughing so hard.  Formerly, I was a religious buff, entertaining the ideas of different religions and psycho-analyzing how they play a part in my life.  Not so much anymore.  TV is my religion… (well, that sounded a little get-a-lifey, now didn’t it?)  Either way, The Gospel of Reason is an entertaining read.

Sopranos: The Way It Was Supposed to Be…

June 13, 2007 Kerri with a "K" 1 comment

Since Sunday night’s series finale, all everyone has been talking about is The Sopranos.  Did Tony die just as Meadow was walking in?  Does he go to jail on the weapons charge?  Does the whole family die at that table?

Nothing but speculation.  Just as it was meant to be.  What no one seems to understand is that that’s the way it should have been.  No one REALLY wants to know what happens to Tony, or if Silvio wakes up, or what happens to Fluvio’s… If the episode had been worked any differently, the world would be complaining about how badly it was done, or how unhappy they are with who died.

An interesting tidbit about the finale was the song at the end, which I’ve mentioned before.  Just as Journey sang the word “Stop” everything went black.  Symbolic, no?  What else I noticed while rewatching was that it appeared that Tony, Carmela and AJ were talking to the audience/viewers as well as themselves.  Saying things like “It’s okay not to know” and “Things were meant to be the way they are” and “Who knows what the future will bring.”  Truthfully, that was something I picked up on right away: talking to the audience.  It was a message of reassurance saying that even though we never saw Tony die or be indicted, that everything would work out the way it was supposed to.  We just don’t get to see it.

The New York Times expressed a similar opinion in an atricle stating that even popular television writers were satisfied with the ending, and that it was seemingly perfect, and artistically done.

The goal was to get people talking, and it was acheived.  The Sopranos was never your typical show, and it was never meant to be.  Nothing was ever cut and dry and no one was ever safe.  And personally, I think David Chase had done a brilliant job with the show.

Perhaps someday we can look forward to a Sopranos movie that will tie things up neatly… Nah!  Who’d want that?!?!
