American Idol’s Stunning Upset

I don’t really agree with the thought that last night’s results were “stunning” or “upsetting.”  Everyone thought Melida would make it all the way… Well, guess what…she didn’t.  Yes, Melinda Doolittle has been the most consistent contestant in all of Idol history, but she’s not really marketable.

And, yeah…if you’ve been reading, I’ve been on Blake’s side since the beginning, so I’m pleased to see he’s going to the finale.  But I haven’t been a big Jordin fan, although I can’t deny that she has skills.

Last night showed clips of the Top 3 returning to their respective hometowns.  Both Blake and Jordin had astronomical welcomings and have both showed a huge following.  I love Melinda, but her welcome home didn’t really seem all that big…Perhaps it was the way they were filming.

So, hands down, my vote goes to Blake Lewis, the most original (and possibly) marketable American Idol to date.  I read somewhere last week (from a magazine weeks ago, because it showed the entire Top 10) that Blake’s girlfriend broke up with him just before Hollywood Week, which made it hard for him.  Bet she’s kicking herself now.  And what’ll happen if he goes all the way and wins?
