Lilly and Marshall’s Wedding

A small intimate gathering for just friends outside, with the sounds of a single guitar playing in the background.  Simple.  All they wanted was something simple.  And in a matter of a few months, the wedding had gotten disproportionately larger than anyone had anticpated.  So, of course everything starts going wrong: Marshall gets “cool guy tips” then shaves his head out of embarassment, Lilly’s veil is dead, and Lilly’s ex-boyfriend Scooter shows up at the wedding.  The fantastic solution comes frome Ted: just have the intimate outdoor wedding they wanted, then the other wedding won’t matter so much because they’d already be married…Great plan, Ted!  And Barney officiates the wedding.

I love the way this is being dragged out into more than one episode.  It started with a clip of Ted’s Best Man speech, then with last night’s “Something Borrowed” which was the actual wedding, and will finish up with next week’s “Something Blue.”  The writers really hit the nail on the head with this one.  I’ll admit, I was a little disappointed before I knew what was going on last week.  I’d been hoping they’d make a big deal out of Marshall and Lilly’s wedding, and they did.

Looking now, “Something Blue” was also the name of a Buffy episode that featured Alyson Hannigan as Willow predominantly, and her powers going all wonky.
